About Us

Care and Education

As a Private Day Nursery School, we have been serving the local community since 1982. We have a strong local reputation and provide a caring and nurturing environment, where your child will be SAFE, LOVED and LEARNING.

Our team of expert, experienced and well-trained practitioners are dedicated to providing care, teaching and learning for all children and their families throughout their early years education. We have strong staff retention and we nurture their expertise.

We strongly believe that children learn best when they are happy and settled and this is why we place children's well-being at the centre of all we do.

Babies & Toddlers

Our separate baby room allows our younger infants to safely explore their environment, practising their new skills in a supportive room where staff plan to meet individual needs.
Toddlers have access to different rooms with messy, soft and heuristic play making up part of their carefully planned daily routine. Learning is fun and teaching matches their needs within a supportive environment.

Pre-School

Learning Lions and Confident Crocs room names show our expectations of the children. All the groups plan in detail to provide exciting learning opportunities and key staff know their children's development thoroughly, so the groups curriculum is broad, allowing children to develop their own interests and build on their independence.
Our aim is to support the children in our care to be happy, confident and 'ready for school.'

Funded Places

Places are available for all children from 3 months to leaving us for school.

We offer funded places to eligible 2 year olds, universal 15 hour places for 3 & 4 year olds, and the 30 hour funding for eligible families.

  •  LEARNING: We support your children to become competent and confident learners and communicators , healthy in mind, body and spirit- included in our yoga and mindfulness teaching. Our skilled staff identify and record how your child learns through their play, we encourage you to add your own comments to this in our easy to use online system.

Our Mission

Quality Childcare

We believe that children thrive in an environment which values their uniqueness, whilst providing support and opportunities to grow emotionally, socially and creatively. By building on each child’s strengths, interests and curiosities, we guide their learning and support them to begin to understand and make sense of the world around them as well as develop new abilities like singing, dancing and playing games. Planning for each child is effective as we build on their growing skills and development, helping them to think and solve problems, take turns, negotiate and share. They begin to understand their own feelings and those of others, have conversations, learn about words, numbers and how things work.

What will my child learn at nursery?

 They will:

  • Meet people outside their family, form friendships

  • Learning to relate well to other children in a group

  • Play and explore

  • Be brave and try new things

  • Ask questions and have a say

Ofsted - outstanding

All children thrive at this very inclusive nursery. Staff's learning intentions for children are very personalised. Children have a very positive attitude to their learning and their behaviour is exemplary. Children hold complex conversations with one another during imaginative play.  Key persons know their children extremely well. They carefully plan settling-in sessions that are unique to each child.

My youngest boy ,came to Serpentine when he was two years old after moving  to Buxton. We were really worried about how he would cope moving to a new nursery, however our worries were not needed at all, because I can honestly say that Serpentine nursery has given not only loving care but a fantastic start to his education. Their attention to detail is fantastic and communication with parents on every level is to the highest of standards. Now my youngest boy is there and he is also really happy too and I am confident that he will bloom the way my eldest boy did in their care. I would definitely recommend this nursery as one of the best if not the best.!

The Serpentine team are excellent.

The team put time and effort into understanding each individual child and working with them, their needs and their preferences.

When my son first started at the Nursery he was very reluctant, but the team put different steps in place to help him adjust.

They organised plenty of settling in sessions, they ensured he was settling in on a day with children he knew and his key worker worked with me to find out what he enjoyed and his preferences.

Almost a year later my son has thrived at Serpentine. They provide a wide range of activities, working with the children's interests, whilst helping them to develop a range of skills at the same time.

My little boy looks forward to attending each week, on top of this he also really enjoys the food and the outdoor play areas.

I would highly recommend this Nursery to anyone who is looking for a child focused, child intelligent setting.
